An actual new London Overground train

Reader Dazz285 has supplied me with another shot of a new London Overground train under construction (previously), this time much more recognisable:

You can see how wide the walk-through end gangways will be. It seems we won't be getting the fancy frameless windows the other air-conditioned models of Electrostar have.

  1. Are these having internally sliding doors, rather than plug doors - and will this speed up dwell times much?

If so I'd expect to see something similar on Thameslink new build too...

  2. I think those images of the new overground trains are a disapointment. They look like some scrap from southeastern. Not the images I have seen for so long. Lets hope its not as bad as it looks

  3. Eh? They look like an Electrostar family suburban unit, which is what they are.

  4. Yes they will have internally sliding doors.

  5. anon 2 - The carriage shown is identical to most of the images shown previously in various TfL/LO publicity (albeit there is no cab end shown).

The units are widely understood to be based on a South Eastern 376s.

  6. @anon 2 - they will be leagues above the 313s we have currently, trust me. We on the North London Line will be pleased to have them. It'd make sense to make them all dual voltage though, for the sake of 'interoperability', like...

  7. These trains are such a mistake. TfL told me they were using these because they've already been massed produced and thus cheap.

A metro service needs 3 sets minimum of doors per carriage. If London Overground becomes popular, they'll regret this decision. LO should strive to be more S-Bahn than South London Suburban train.

  8. THC - there are a few indications here and there that all the stock will be dual voltage. Otherwise diagramming will be incredibly difficult, the timetable stuff linked to in an article a while ago includes ELL units stabling at Orient Way overnight for instance...

  9. Any news on the internal fittings, particularly the hand rails? The interiors are supposed to be designed to maximise standing room but TfL's artist's impressions didn't seem to show a lot to hold on to.

  10. will the new overground trains be air-conditioned?
    Thanks

  11. I can confirm that the NLL (class 378/0) / ELL (class 378/1) rolling stock will have air con, will have dual voltage capability (although initially 750V DC only for EEL 4-car units, i.e. no pan or transformer installed (NLL 3-cars dual voltage fitted, i.e. installed with pan / tx)), do have sliding doors (as seen), have a max. speed of 75mph and londitudinal seating similar to class 376s. Basically a 3 / 4-car 376 with air con, wide open end gangways and, in the case of NLL units, fitted with 25kV equipment. Also, there is a contract option to increase NLL units to 4-cars.

  12. the new 378's will inprove the dwell times and will inprove the whole look of the NLL, lorol have done a good job with the stations staffing ect' the new stock will finnish the job.

  13. The seats in the things will be lateral - like an underground train so we'll all be standing in air-conditioned comfort - and they call this progress?
