Wood Lane aerial photo

Following on from the photos I posted earlier this week, here's a great aerial photo of Wood Lane station taken by reader Former Optimist, presumably from the roof of BBC Television Centre:
There can't be many tube stations with another line they don't serve passing underneath the ticket hall.

Doesn't the presence of the central line there explain why the pavement has been raised outside as you mentioned in your previous post? i.e. it avoids having a flight of steps and a lift

Why is there no connection with the Central Line? My guess is it is very near White City station, but I don't know the geography of the area too well. If not - surely a interchange with the Central would have been useful.

Yes, Wood Lane is very close to White City. I'm not actually sure exactly where the entrance to Wood Lane station will be but I'd be surprised if it was more than about 3 minutes walk from the entrance to White City.

Despite it being outside of the barriers, I anticipate it being an easier interchange than some internal ones, e.g. Bakerloo-Central at Oxford Circus, Bakerloo-Northern at Charing Cross and just about everything at Waterloo.

It's funny how TfL just don't seem to think that convenient, easy to use interchanges are important. What about the obstacle course from the westbound Circle/H&C to the tube lines at Baker Street. Again this new Wood Lane/ White City does not seem to have been given proper consideration. Perhaps these people never actually travel on the system that they are responsible for!

Will is be marked as an interchange on tfl maps? Not to do so seems silly. But then, they should've called the new station White City not Wood Lane!

How good is access to the Westfield ?

I walk past every day and it seems as though the entrance is going to be down a sloping ramp towards the railway bridge, i.e. down to the front right as you look at this photograph.

This would make sense and will emerge about 20 metres away from the entrance to the new shopping centre which is just to the right out of the shot.

If you wanted to interchange with the Central Line, you'd have to do an immediate U turn and walk back through the photograph, to the left, about 100 metres to White City...

...unless they're planning on building a secret subway!

No U-turn required, carlos - it looks like the ramp goes both ways, so you'll be able to turn right out of Wood Lane, down the ramp, past TV Centre, and into White City. Rather simple, really.

This site was the biggest gap site in the universe - there was a golden opportunity to relocate WC station underneath the H&C line while they were remodelling the underground train depot which lurks down there. They blew it. Now the largest shopping centre in the universe is being plonked on top of it all and they are committed. WC station is stuck 230m away. (They could have widened Wood Lane while they were at it - it's always at a standstill and the 220 bus is possibly the worst service in London as a result)

Agreed. Not like tfl to miss a trick now is it.
